Those looking for unique places to stay in Texas need look no further than Valencia’s two Court hotels that blend high-style touches with a vintage glamping vibe.
With its vast open spaces, the Lone Star State has always had an appeal to those seeking adventure on the open road. It’s in that spirit that Valencia created its Court brand. Both Lone Star Court in Austin and the new Cavalry Court in College Station borrow design elements from the heyday of road tripping to create truly unique places to stay in Texas.
The sites incorporate modern furniture, mid-century design features, and vintage color schemes to create two very different locations. Yet both hotels deliver the wide open green spaces you might find at your favorite campground, dotted with fire pits and a watering-hole-like swimming pool. It’s all the fun of camping with all of the style and comfort of Austin and College Station. Here, we take you on a virtual road trip ourselves to give you a glamping glimpse at both Texas hotels.
Rocking Chairs
Centralized green spaces and pools were the hallmark of the motor lodges that inspired the Court brand. These boldly painted chairs outside the guest rooms of both locations give guests a comfortable seat to take in the fresh air and enjoy the common areas. The locally rooted landscaping – all plants are indigenous to Texas – makes the carefully manicured gardens and lawns feel like a natural expression of the beauty of the state.
Repurposed Gear
Camping is all about being prepared and packing the right gear; glamping is all about making sure that gear is fabulous. The playful use of ammo boxes as Cavalry Court’s front desk exemplifies the way utility can become style with a lighthearted touch. The ingenuity of the upcycled boxes would make the US Army Corps of Engineers proud.
Restaurants
The hunter green Eames style chairs at Canteen invoke the military sensibility that Cavalry Court was named for and blend in with the modern design aesthetic. The natural light and unobstructed views of the central courtyard bring nature inside to warm up the uniformity while the live music every weekend is like singing around the campfire without annoying your neighbors. At Lone Star Court, The Water Trough is housed in a barn featuring reclaimed wood pulled from original barns around the state. Classic Texas grub is then savored at the indoor-outdoor seating, even including picnic tables (with a high-style design nod, of course) for the full glamping effect.
Reborn Trailers for Quick Bites
The two hotels have incorporated the food truck craze in interpretations that feel right at home in their respective settings and design themes. New at Cavalry Court, the Tack Shack is an overhauled horse trailer with a decidedly MASH-like color palette for a quick refreshment or full meal while enjoying the hotel’s live music on weekends. At Lone Star Court, the Feed Store calls an Airstream trailer its home. Better than trying to cook over an open fire, it offers upscale versions of camp favorites like all-beef hotdogs and pork belly–beef burgers. Add some of the signature truffle fries to any order. Trust us on that one.
Smeg Iceboxes
Fully stocked with local snacks and plenty of throwback charm, these refrigerators in every room at Lone Star Court and Cavalry Court go beyond – way beyond – the camp cooler. The sinuous lines and funky colors create a fun vintage vibe while cutting-edge technology makes them energy efficient and eco-friendly.
Fire Pits
You knew it was coming. No glamping experience in Texas can be complete without its campfires. At Cavalry Court, you’ll find a handful of fire pits, including one built like a bunker. At Lone Star Court, brightly colored lawn chairs circle a handful of fire pits just beyond the Water Trough. Spend the night relaxing under the stars and catching up with friends while sipping on a “Chill Cowboy” or roasting s’mores, which are complimentary with Lone Star Court’s Glamping Package.
