With San Antonio’s famous Riverwalk right out the front door of Hotel Valencia Riverwalk, the tough part is knowing which direction for your feet to lead you in. We offer some suggestions within 20 minutes.
The Majestic Theatre
Walking time: 1 minute
You won’t even break a sweat reaching this 2,264-seat National Historic Landmark, built in San Antonio’s celebrated Spanish Mediterranean style and boasting acts as varied as Jackson Browne one night and the city’s acclaimed symphony the next.
The Esquire Tavern
Walking time: 4 minutes
This throwback tavern opened in 1933 to celebrate the end of Prohibition in San Antonio. Fittingly, there’s a selection of 25 cocktails and dozens of beers and wines to enjoy while resting your elbows on the longest wooden bar in Texas.
Travis Park
Walking time: 5 minutes
This easygoing downtown park is home to opera performances, fitness classes, nationally recognized food trucks like Tapa Tapa Truck, and as much green space as you’ll find anywhere within city limits.
The River Walk
Walking time: 5 minutes
Your hotel takes its name from this famed stretch on the water, jam-packed with events, shops, and restaurants. A leisurely walk along its nearly five-mile length gives you the opportunity to enjoy the cool breeze off the water, the myriad attractions lining it, and terrific people-watching opportunities.
The Alamo
Walking time: 8 minutes
This famous relic stands out in ultra-modern San Antonio for its humble presence, and it’s worth a visit just to tour the building that inspired a Texas Revolution battle cry. History buffs will appreciate the chance to tour the entire four-acre compound, which has much more than the familiar church façade.
San Antonio Fire Museum
Walking time: 11 minutes
This underappreciated gem showcases San Antonio’s fire history back into the 1880s, with antique firefighting equipment and former city firefighters serving as your guides to every exhibit.
La Villita Historic Arts Village
Walking time: 12 minutes
One of San Antonio’s first neighborhoods, La Villita is now home to a burgeoning crop of top artists working behind these historic façades. See their crafted jewelry, pottery, and paintings at the dozen of small galleries the village houses.
Tower of the Americas
Walking time: 19 minutes
The best view of San Antonio’s growing skyline is in the tower’s Observation Deck, the perfect way to admire all the ground you covered on your stroll through the city and the lit-up skyline during the nighttime.
